A new kind of conversation has to begin. This is our challenge as people who believe in a future that is united by dialogue, empathy and common roots. We must change the narrative in order to open doorways instead of building walls. We have to start that conversation.

Discovering new worlds has been my passion since I was a child and this desire is reflected in the type of hours I have dedicated to volunteering over the years. From my early forays into journalism as a contributor to the Varsity newspaper and producing and hosting a news and public affairs show at CIUT Radio, both at the University of Toronto, to promoting culture by co-founding the Dal Gallo Sebastiano cultural association, which opened and runs a library and organizes cultural events in Meana di Susa, Italy; my aim has always been to communicate and share different perspectives, to provide spaces for conversation and to challenge my own beliefs. This has been particularly cultivated through activism, public speaking and writing about unnecessary and imposed mega projects, environmental challenges and promoting grassroots participation in decision-making processes.
My time has also consistently been committed to human rights and intercultural dialogue: as part of the public relations, newsletter committee and as a host programme member at CultureLink, an agency that assists refugees and immigrants in Toronto, Canada; as co-founder and board member of Friends of Honduras, an international development NGO which involved a Canadian relief effort after Hurricane Mitch, developing community relations, fundraising and volunteer coordination and building 20 homes as part of the New Horizons Project in Tocoa, Honduras; as co-founder and member of Tutti uguali, tutti diversi, a working group that developed multilingual guidelines for welcoming immigrant students into the Susa Valley school districts; as a member of Rete sentieri solidali a network of volunteers assisting migrants and refugees in Susa Valley, Italy; and as co-founder and co-president of Maydan Association, a transnational organization focusing on the development of a Mediterranean citizenship and working on related issues like mobility, socio-economic equality and environmental protection.
