About the logo

I have spent almost every summer of my life on Georgian Bay, home of the 30,000 islands and the largest fresh-water island in the world: Manitoulin. We are sailors in my family and have been challenged by the same fierce west wind that has bent the white pines along the eastern shore of the Bay toward where the sun rises. Their resilience has always inspired me when faced with personal, professional and global challenges. They resist. They bend but do not break. Their roots grasp the scarce soil on the pre-Cambrian rock and find the sustenance they need to survive and to provide shelter and protection to animals and humans. They are majestic, but do not have a uniform shape. I chose the white pine for my logo for all that this courageous tree represents.

I thank Sara Pelissero for the design and the clever trompe l’oeil within it – can you find it? So much of what we see depends on which eyes we are using to observe what is before us.

My appreciation goes to Fabrizio Arietti for the beautiful photographs he has taken and I have used here: the Inukshuk on the home page, the portrait of me and the About Me, Professional Experience and Expertise images.

The white pines of Georgian Bay, Canada defy fierce winds. They bend but do not break. And despite a scarcity of soil, they spread their roots, find sustenance and resist.
